Bioo Scientific Corporation Recognized With 2015 Tibbetts Award

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will present Bioo Scientific with the 2015 Tibbetts Awards in the Medical and Life Sciences category at a White House ceremony on June 15 featuring keynote speaker Cady Coleman. The 2015 Tibbetts Awards are granted to small businesses that have excelled through Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs. The grant Bioo Scientific received from the NSF through these programs were used to develop new technologies for in vivo delivery of siRNA, miRNA, long dsRNA and other RNAi agents. Synthetic small interfering RNAs (siRNA) are known to induce gene specific silencing in mammalian cells. The path to using siRNA as an effective, highly adaptable therapeutic agent in humans relies on the ability of delivery vehicles to target diseased cells in a metered fashion at the target site while limiting side effects. This requires the development of siRNA delivery vehicles that are safe, specific, efficient and reliable for multiple indications. Bioo Scientific has taken on the challenge of delivering nucleic acid based drugs. In vivo delivery reagents developed using this grant have since been cited in Nature Medicine, Molecular Therapy, Carcinogenesis, Cancer Cell and other publications, illustrating the effectiveness of the in vivo siRNA delivery reagents to facilitate the delivery of important new therapeutics for the treatment of cancer and other diseases.

The annual Tibbetts Awards are presented to US companies who have been instrumental in supporting the success of and/or utilizing SBIR/STTR investment to develop an idea from concept stage to a product or service that benefits federal government research and development needs, the wellbeing of the general public, and the national economy through technological innovation and the creation of high quality jobs.
