IRESSA^® was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on July 13, 2015, for the first-line treatment of patients with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) whose tumors have epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) exon 19 deletions or exon 21 (L858R) substitution mutations as detected by an FDA-approved test.

IRESSA^® is an epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase (EGFR-TK) inhibitor that acts to block signals for cancer cell growth and survival in non-small cell lung cancer.
