BIOLASE Technology, Inc. Completes Sale of Last WaterLase MD Turbo Laser Systems Repurchased From Henry Schein, Inc.

IRVINE, CA--(Marketwire - January 08, 2013) -

BIOLASE, Inc. (NASDAQ: BIOL), the world's leading dental laser manufacturer and distributor, announced today that the Company has sold the last of the 159 WaterLase® MD Turbo™ laser systems it repurchased earlier this year from Henry Schein, Inc. (NASDAQ: HSIC) ("Schein").

The Company had initially planned to use a portion of the purchased Schein inventory as a source of parts to service its large installed base of MD Turbo laser systems. However, due to the high demand for the equipment, all of the re-purchased laser systems were ultimately sold. BIOLASE repurchased the units from Schein at a very advantageous price under a February 2012 agreement and sold them throughout the last three quarters at margins consistent with its other laser products.

Federico Pignatelli, Chairman and CEO of BIOLASE, said, "The strong demand for these WaterLase MD Turbo laser systems over the past three quarters along with a period of consistent growth in the direct sales of our flagship WaterLase iPlus™ to end users in North America, demonstrate the benefits and effectiveness of having a wide range of WaterLase products."

Currently, BIOLASE offers several variations of WaterLase laser systems, including the flagship iPlus, the mid-priced MDX™ 450 and 300, and lower priced certified pre-owned MD Turbos.
