NEW YORK, January 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Biocoral, Inc. announced today that recently the French Patent Office (Institut National de la Propriete Industrielle "INPI") approved and granted a company patent called "Device for delivering of Biomaterial into a determined portion of bone"
The French Patent Office, after more then three years of examining of the company's application, granted the patent innovation to Bio Holdings International Ltd., the Company's wholly owned subsidiary, under the patent number 01 12082. The Patent will expire in 2021.
The INPI is a French Government Agency Patent Office, which contributes to the development of industry by securing and protecting the successful and creative development of structures for patents, etc. The INPI represents France in the qualified international organizations and to cooperate to support the exchanges.
Nasser Nassiri, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Biocoral, Inc. commented, "the Company believes that the range of clinical orthopedics applications for the new patented Device is wide open especially the treatment of bone diseases associated with demineralization such as treatment of Hip Fracture. In addition the company is already owns patent for the use of at least one biocompatible and bioabsorbable calcium salt for local treatment of bone diseases associated with demineralization or mineralization defects of bone, with the aim of reinitiating the process of bone remineralization.

The principal current alternative to Biocoral(r) is the utilization of autologous (from the patient's own body) bone grafts. The use of autologous bone grafts requires the patient to undergo one or more additional surgeries to harvest the bone graft material. This is not always feasible due to the condition of the patient or other contraindications, and must be shaped in a separate procedure to fit the graft area.
