Expected to be sworn into office on March 3, 2014, Kevin Faulconer will replace Interim San Diego Mayor, Todd Gloria, who will return to his post as City Council President.

"Kevin Faulconer has a proven track record of being able to bring all parties together to respond and resolve the needs of San Diegans," said Joe Panetta, President and CEO of Biocom. "It is evident that Kevin Faulconer understands the importance of the life science industry and is committed to positioning San Diego as an attractive and growing economy for creating career jobs and expanding access to science, technology, engineering and mathematics education."

The life science community is one of the economic drivers of the region, and at the moment a majority of the cluster is located in the City of San Diego. It is one of the few local industries which continued to grow during the recession, and provides jobs which earn an average of over $100,000 per employee per year.
