BioCision, LLC Announces Immediate Global Availability Of CryoPod Carrier

Industry’s first hand-portable liquid nitrogen carrier for transport of cryogenic specimens

San Rafael, Calif., December 15, 2015 - BioCision, LLC today announced the availability of CryoPod™ Carrier, a hand-portable solution for the safe transport of valuable biospecimens and temperature-sensitive therapeutics, including immunotherapies and vaccines. The breakthrough technology is the result of a joint development project with Brooks Automation and has already received high accolades from two leading global biobanking organizations – winning both the “2015 New Product of the Year Award” from International Society for Biological and Environmental Repositories (ISBER) and the “2015 Innovation Award” from European Society for Biopreservation and Biobanking (ESBB).

The CryoPod Carrier is a liquid nitrogen (LN2) vapor-based carrier that addresses a previously unmet need in cryogenic sample transport and handling. It provides safe, reliable and portable cryogenic transport for biospecimens at -150°C or lower temperature for more than 4 hours on a single LN2 charge. The carrier replaces unstandardized modes of short cryogenic transport that can result in temperature increases of the frozen samples, and solutions that are costly or cumbersome to implement, such as dry vapor shippers.

“The continued growth of biobanking , as well as the growing need for rigorous temperature controls for cell-based therapeutics, makes this product a necessity for many of our customers,” said Rolf O. Ehrhardt, MD, PhD, chief executive officer of BioCision. “CryoPod Carrier is another example of our continuing focus on providing innovative, cost-effective solutions that address critical gaps in the cold chain workflow.”

Other unique features of CryoPod Carrier include the onboard electronics that display temperature, date and time, as well as user settable audible and visual alarms. The instrument also features logging functionality, enabling operators to record and download the temperature and event history as needed. The lightweight carrier requires only 3L of LN2, which is absorbed in a separate chamber, to operate for more than 4 hours. It can be manually filled or seamlessly integrated into an automated filling station that replenishes the LN2 charge in less than 15 minutes.

CryoPod Carrier is available worldwide through authorized BioCision distributors. For more information, visit www.biocision.com/cryopod.
