Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc. Introduces C1000 Touch(TM) Thermal Cycler

Hercules, CA — July 1, 2011 — Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc. introduces the C1000 Touch thermal cycler, a PCR instrument that combines the high thermal performance and advanced features of the C1000™ thermal cycler with a new large color touch screen.

The C1000 Touch thermal cycler is ideal for large high-throughput labs, core facilities, and GLP labs that value fast turnaround time, flexibility, and adjustable throughput.

Bio Rad developed touch-screen navigation for the C1000 Touch thermal cycler so that researchers are able to edit, run, and save protocols with ease. Protocol Autowriter, which creates a protocol in three easy steps, is accessible from the home screen of the C1000 Touch thermal cycler.

A new 96–deep well block that can hold 0.2 or 0.5 ml tubes for reaction volumes over 50 µl (up to 125 µl) was developed for the C1000 Touch (as well as the C1000 and S1000™ thermal cyclers). The large reaction volume is useful for sample preparation upstream of applications such as next-generation sequencing using emulsion PCR and microarray library amplification.

With the C1000 Touch thermal cycler, PCR is:

- Easier — The large color touch screen and navigation offer intuitive programming and allow runs to begin in as few as three screen touches.

- Faster — The reduced-mass blocks shorten run times, and the thermal gradient allows for reaction optimization in a single run.

- Smarter — The system can adjust throughput by accommodating interchangeable 96-well, dual 48-well, and 384-well blocks, and it can be upgraded to real-time PCR. To learn more about the C1000 Touch thermal cycler, visit: http://bit.ly/BioRadPCRevolutionary.
