Bilcare to Establish £11M Clinical Research Facility in Wales

MUMBAI, INDIA--(MARKET WIRE)--Dec 6, 2007 -- The Deputy First Minister of the Welsh Assembly Government Ieuan Wyn Jones, who is currently leading a delegation of Welsh companies in India, announced that Bilcare, the Pune-based pharmaceutical packaging-to-clinical research company, will invest £ 11 million in setting up a new clinical supplies facility in South Wales.

First Minister Jones and Mohan Bhandari, Chairman and Managing Director, Bilcare, signed the agreement today in Mumbai.

The investment will enable Bilcare to expand its presence in Wales and cater to the needs of its customers in Western Europe and parts of Eastern Europe. Wales is well positioned to provide a central location in Europe for Bilcare -- just two hours away from London. With University research excellence, good availability of key skills -- from laboratory staff to PhDs -- superior infrastructure and a network that links companies, academics and government together, Wales is an ideal location for Bilcare to service the European market at a competitive cost.

Commenting on Bilcare's investment in Wales, Minister Jones said, "Wales is an ideal location for companies in the pharmaceutical and biosciences space. The Welsh economy is driven by high technology sectors like biotechnology, opto electronics and aerospace.

"Wales is strategically located to provide a true gateway to the rest of Europe. Our endeavour is to encourage companies like Bilcare to set up in Wales as we have the ideal environment for technology transfers, collaboration and product licenses with the best academic support and R&D expertise. We provide companies with a real opportunity to excel and reach out to their customers in Europe in a competitive environment. We are delighted that Bilcare will establish its new facility in Wales."

Bhandari said, "We have aggressive plans for Europe and Wales is a good base from which to operate in Europe. We acquired DHP, a clinical supplier last fiscal year and now with our new facility will employ around 200 people in Wales. With the support of the Welsh Government and International Business Wales, we have been able to expedite the process of expansion in Wales for servicing the European market."

Indian companies in Wales include: Bilcare, BUI Pvt Ltd - Universal Batteries, Indo Fuji, RR Auto and Wockhardt.
