Beware: Asbestos Found In Some Crayons, Toys From China

Asbestos fibers were found in some Chinese-made crayons and powder from children’s crime-scene fingerprint kits purchased at Bay Area stores, according to a study released Wednesday by an environmental health advocacy organization.

The substance was found in four of the 28 boxes of crayons and two of the 21 kids’ fingerprinting kits purchased online and at stores in the East Bay, said the Environmental Working Group. The crayons were labeled with such popular characters as Disney’s Mickey Mouse and Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
