WHIPPANY, N.J., Feb. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Bayer Corporation congratulates a group of journalists who will be honored tomorrow for their extraordinary professional achievements at the National Press Association's 32nd Annual Awards Dinner in Washington, D.C.

More than 1,000 journalists, media, public relations and corporate executives, policy makers and trade groups are expected to attend the NPF dinner at the Washington Hilton Hotel to acknowledge accomplishments in broadcasting, print and online journalism, as well as editorial cartooning.  Honorees were selected by a panel of NPF judges based upon the criteria for each award.  This year's honorees:

The primary mission of the National Press Foundation is to increase journalists' knowledge of complex issues in order to improve public understanding.  The Foundation recognizes and encourages excellence in journalism through its awards and cost-free educational programs.  Bayer has underwritten a number of NPF educational programs since 2014, including a four-day cancer symposium and webinars about Ebola and addiction.  

Media Educational Program:  Measles and Vaccines
The NPF's next educational program is a webinar entitled "Disease Outbreak:  Measles and Vaccines" on Monday, Feb. 23.  The cost-free, one-day program will be held at the NPF Media Training Center in Washington, D.C.  Support for this program was provided by Bayer.

Measles is a former childhood scourge that had been eliminated in the United States until a recent outbreak in California.  To date, the outbreak has sickened more than 120 people in at least 17 states. The program will explore measles as a public health problem, the status and prognosis of the outbreak and the factors that can influence future outbreaks of measles, whooping cough and other vaccine-preventable diseases.  Among those factors:  the controversy about vaccines, a patchwork of state regulations regarding vaccination and the 2016 Presidential election.  Experts will also discuss how to find and use data.
