BETHLEHEM, Pa., May 31, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- B. Braun Medical Inc. (B.Braun) announced today that its Outlook® 400ES Infusion pump will be featured in an interoperability demonstration led by the Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise® (IHE) Patient Care Device (PCD) Domain at the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI ) 2013 Conference & Expo, June 1-3 in Long Beach, California.

B.Braun will join other IHE-PCD members - including Accent on Integration, Amcom, Awarepoint, Capsule, Cerner, Covidien, EQ2, Hospira and Philips - in demonstrating how their enterprise applications and medical devices integrate to improve patient care and safety. In particular, B.Braun will demonstrate interoperability in auto-programming the Outlook 400ES infusion pump and sending alarms and infusion data to other systems within the healthcare facility.

"B.Braun continues to develop and support the IHE-PCD standard-based communications in moving forward with System Integration," said Mike Golebiowski, Director of Marketing, Automation and Infusion Systems at B.Braun. "We embrace the many benefits this interoperability provides to our customers and the healthcare market," added Golebiowski.

IHE is an initiative to create a standards-based framework for passing vital health information seamlessly within and across multiple healthcare enterprises from application to application, system to system, and setting to setting. Systems that support IHE Integration Profiles work together better, are easier to implement, and help healthcare providers use information more effectively. The demonstration will take place throughout the AAMI conference in booth #837. The demonstration is sponsored by AAMI, the American College of Clinical Engineering and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS).

"I'm very pleased with the PCD Domain Committee's progress in defining interoperability specifications for medical device communications," said Steve Merritt, Co-chair of the IHE-PCD Planning Committee. "Without the efforts of participating companies, we wouldn't be making such great strides in delivering domain profiles, nor in demonstrating our progress at AAMI. It's truly rewarding to see the device community come together to improve patient safety while reducing healthcare delivery costs."
