ArthroSurface Receives CE Mark Approval for Uni Knee Resurfacing System
FRANKLIN, Mass., June 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Arthrosurface, Inc. (www.arthrosurface.com), the developer of less-invasive joint resurfacing systems, announced that it has received the CE Mark approval for its UniCAP(TM) Unicondylar resurfacing system. With this approval, the company is poised to move into the fast growing European market of partial knee replacements. "We have taken our clinical experiences from the company's HemiCAP(R) focal knee resurfacing product in Europe, in part, to create a larger sized Unicondylar knee system that is joint preserving while having the fit of a device similar to an off-the-shelf custom implant", said Steve Ek, COO.
Many patients with knee arthritis have damage on only one side of their knee. If detected early, damage to the cartilage surface is often localized and the meniscus, the main shock absorbing structure of the knee joint, may still be functional. The company believes that its product lines address a gap in existing treatments, specifically between biological options and joint replacement. It is the Millennium Patient(TM), a typical middle-aged and active patient as termed by the company, that may not be suited for either of these options. The UniCAP(TM) system may now provide an option for this previously unaddressed market.
