Anti-Clotting Drug Trial Shortened by Bleeding Problems

Hopes that a new drug to treat stroke-risk patients with an irregular heartbeat had been found have been dashed after scientists discovered it caused bleeding. Idraparinux was said to be as efficient as the standard Warfarin treatment, also known as vitamin K antagonists. But research carried out by the Amadeus Investigators Group found the drug caused bleeding in some patients. Findings were published in The Lancet (Jan. 26).
