Martinsried, Germany, September 3, 2013 / B3C newswire / - Dr. Lin Römer (38) was appointed as additional managing director of AMSilk® effective August 1st of 2013. Dr. Römer is co-founder and shareholder of AMSilk. Previously, he had already been involved in developing the technology together with Prof. Thomas Scheibel.

Lin Römer will continue to head the scientific and technical development of the AMSilk Technology and will direct the business of AMSilk together with Axel Leimer.

„I welcome the appointment of Dr. Römer. His technological and strategic skills will continue to make an invaluable contribution to the company,” says Axel Leimer, managing director of AMSilk.

Dr. Römer has been leading the application and market-driven development of spider silk into products at the Technische Universität München and the University of Bayreuth. As project manager and staff scientist at the university, he has been the key to transferring academic achievements into marketable products. Dr. Römer received his diploma of chemistry with focus on biochemistry from the University of Marburg and his PhD from the Technische Universität München. In 2008 he joined AMSilk as Head of Research and Development.

About AMSilk

Spider silk has attracted man's interest for thousands of years, mainly due to its toughness and elasticity. The silk is biocompatible and can be used in formulations for specialized coatings, films, nonwovens and in pharmaceuticals. Spider silk has evolved over millions of years resulting in a combination of properties that far exceed any man-made material. AMSilk has developed a proprietary process for producing spider silk on an industrial scale.

In March 2013 AMSilk had already announced that it has produced the world’s first competitive man-made spider silk fiber, called Biosteel®, which is made entirely from recombinant silk proteins.

AMSilk was founded in 2008 and is located at the IZB in Planegg near Munich. AMSilk's investors are MIG Funds and AT Newtec, Munich. Projects are partially funded through grants from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Infrastructure, Transport and Technology with project management provided by the PTJ and VDI.

AMSilk is a registered trademark in the European Union, in USA and in Japan of AMSilk GmbH, Germany. BIOSTEEL is a registered trademark in the European Union and trademark application in USA of AMSilk GmbH, Germany
