American Telemedicine Association Announces Telemedicine Video Contest with Over $16K in Prizes

6/29/2012 10:15:17 AM

WASHINGTON, June 29, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Telemedicine Association has created an open video contest on the theme "Expect Telemedicine Because Telemedicine Works," with over 16 thousand dollars in total cash prizes. This contest is designed to promote the value and importance of telemedicine, mHealth and remote monitoring to patients, the public and healthcare administrators.  Video entries are accepted through August 15 and may be submitted at www.americantelemed.org/videocontest or www.facebook.com/AmericanTelemed.

"We've organized this video contest to showcase the benefits of using telecommunications to deliver healthcare and to illustrate why patients should expect and demand such services," said Stewart Ferguson, PhD, President of the American Telemedicine Association.  "We're looking for creative, original and humorous ways to promote telemedicine to healthcare decision makers and the public at-large."

Submitted videos must be 30 or 60 seconds in length and should focus on one of the following objectives:

  • Evoking consumer awareness, interest and demand for telemedicine services so that they will help promote its growth and use
  • Promoting  the value of telemedicine to hospital and health system administrators to encourage their adoption of telemedicine

When illustrating the value of telemedicine, videos may focus on the issues of medical access, affordability, equity, quality of care, timeliness or any other benefit.  For full contest details, please visit www.americantelemed.org/videocontest or www.facebook.com/AmericanTelemed.

The contest includes 4 judged prizes, including awards for Best Video on the Theme of Consumer Awareness ($5000), Best Video on the Theme of Provider Adoption ($5000), Best Non-English Language Video ($2000) and Best Video Produced by a Student ($2000). There will also be 2 people's choice prizes ($1000 each) as selected by a popular vote.

This contest is organized by the American Telemedicine Association, with generous financial support from GlobalMed, The Northwest Telehealth Resource Center and David and Lori Balch of Greenville, NC.

The American Telemedicine Association (ATA) is the leading resource and advocate promoting the use of advanced remote medical technologies.
