American Society of Transplantation Release: Transplantation Organizations Advance The State Of The Practice With Comprehensive Conference On Immune Suppression, February 16-19

MT. LAUREL, N.J., Dec. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Society of Transplantation's (AST) 10th Annual Winter Symposium introduces a groundbreaking approach to educating transplantation professionals. Hosting meetings in conjunction with AST are a number of transplantation associations, which include the International Transplant Nurses Society (ITNS) and the North American Transplantation Coordinators Organization (NATCO). This unique arrangement promises participants unparalleled opportunities to benefit from comprehensive programming on the latest in immunosuppressive therapies and the newest approaches in transplant care. Scheduled for February 16-19 at Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort, located on the secluded south shore, outside of Cancun, Mexico, the 10th Annual Winter Symposium will promote and encourage learning and the sharing of information and insights among the professionals who contribute their knowledge and skills to the transplantation team. Attendees can choose from seminars and workshops offered by AST, ITNS and NATCO. AST will also feature joint sessions with the Mexican Society of Transplantation (MST) and the European Society of Transplantation (ESOT).

A Comprehensive Exploration of a New Frontier

Symposium organizers have developed an ambitious program that includes formal presentations, which explore issues related to patient care, organ donation and recovery, and the latest in clinical trials.

AST is pleased to offer a pre-meeting Immunobiology Symposium, which will review the essential concepts in transplant immunobiology. This background course highlights topics that AST will address under Frontiers of Immune Suppression. Participants will hear expert presentations on breakthrough agents and the latest combinations for optimal immunosuppression, cutting-edge data from ongoing clinical trials, key information about drugs in the development pipeline, the latest strategies for achieving clinical tolerance, and the current status and future direction for genomic microarray profiling.

In addition to AST's program, the ITNS conference agenda consists of workshops that address management issues for the long-term recipient, current controversies in solid organ transplantation and quality management in transplant nursing. NATCO's workshops will review current trends in healthcare and evaluate their implications for immunosuppression. According to Richard N. Fine, MD, AST President, who played a key role in organizing the AST's Winter Symposium, "This will be a wonderful educational experience in a delightful setting. Please join the AST membership and their Mexican colleagues at this exciting symposium."

Linking the Transplantation Community

AST's 10th Annual Winter Symposium is an important opportunity for physicians, surgeons, transplant coordinators, nurses and pharmacists to advance their academic and professional development by sharing information and gaining new insights into the issues faced by the transplant professionals represented at the Symposium. These interactions will ultimately further understanding and sensitivity and lead to better decisions and improved patient care.

Attendees will have many opportunities to increase their knowledge about organ donations, tissue recovery, ongoing clinical trials, new medications and treatment, surgical techniques and patient care during the formal programs. The conference will also offer participants opportunities to network with program faculty and attendees during training sessions, scientific programs, workshops and social events.

The Mexican Mayan Riviera, Perfect for Learning, Relaxing and Luxuriating

The 2006 Winter Symposium recently changed conference venues to ensure participants an unforgettable experience in Mexico. Our first-rate program agenda remains the same. AST is thrilled to announce that the meeting will be held at Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort and is confident that symposium attendees and their families will be delighted with the accommodations and convenience of this world-class hotel.

Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort is located on Mexico's exclusive Mayan Riviera, five miles from the Cancun International Airport. Participants and their family members can look forward to an unparalleled level of pampering at this all-inclusive resort. Try a different on-site restaurant for each meal, enjoy unlimited food and beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), test the water in Mexico's largest lagoon-style pools, marvel at the views from the balconies of the oversized hotel rooms, turn the little ones loose in the kids club, and so much more at no additional cost. Go ahead, spend the mornings soaking in information and the afternoons soaking in the sun. Who says learning can't be fun?
