American Lung Association Of North Carolina Presents Awards At 100th Annual Meeting

8/1/2006 11:29:47 AM

RALEIGH, N.C., Aug. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Lung Association of North Carolina honored key statewide volunteers, corporate partners and researchers on Friday evening, July 28, 2006 at 7 p.m. at the George Watts Hill Alumni Center on the UNC Chapel Hill campus.

ALANC introduces a new award this year, the Second Century Pioneer Award. The inaugural award will be presented to Beatriz "Betty" Blanco Morris, MD. Dr. Morris is honored for her outreach efforts to the Hispanic community.

Volunteer of the Year, recognition of exemplary statewide leadership, will be awarded to Steve Daniels, news anchor of ABC 11 Eyewitness News, Raleigh. Motivated as a parent, Daniels is committed to clean air. "I want all our children to have healthy lungs. The only way to preserve lung health is by promoting clean air initiatives. I see far too many children fighting asthma. I hope our work at ALA helps find a cause and cure for asthma," said Daniels.

"This is the time when The ALANC honors those remarkable people who support us, speak for us in the community, work with us in the trenches. These people and others like them are the reason we can celebrate 100 years of service to North Carolina," said Deborah Bryan, President and CEO.
