American Diabetes Association, Eli Lilly and Company Announce New Scholars Program for 74th Annual Scientific Sessions

ALEXANDRIA, VA and INDIANAPOLIS, IN--(Marketwired - January 29, 2014) - The American Diabetes Association (Association) and Eli Lilly and Company are pleased to announce the creation of the American Diabetes Association Scholars Program. The program, made possible through $1.1 million in support from Lilly, will provide scholarships for up to 100 scholars from outside the U.S. to attend this year's Scientific Sessions, the world's largest scientific and medical conference focused on diabetes and its complications.

"Lilly's support provides scientists from countries around the world that are seeing a significant increase in diabetes, the opportunity to attend this educational program and be trained in the clinical management of the disease. Then, they will be able to return to their home country and conduct these educational programs, furthering our fight to Stop Diabetes® across the globe."

The Association's 74th Annual Scientific Sessions, to be held in San Francisco June 13-17, brings together physicians, scientists and other health care professionals from around the world to learn about the latest advances in basic and clinical science for diabetes. Selected scholars will attend the program, as well as participate in a professional education program which will provide training and resources for scholars to serve as faculty for professional education programs when they return to their home countries. The Association will provide reporting tools for scholars and track the presentation opportunities they undertake.
