Ambry Genetics Donates $125,000 In Breast Cancer Genetic Testing Vouchers To Mauli Ola Foundation

The foundation will host its third annual Battle for the Breasts online surf video competition to raise awareness for breast cancer.

ALISO VIEJO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Ambry Genetics, a genetics testing company based out of Southern California, is donating $125,000 in hereditary breast cancer test vouchers to the Mauli Ola Foundation’s third annual Battle for the Breasts (B4TB) online surf video competition. The Mauli Ola Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing hope and confidence to people living with genetic diseases. Sixteen professional women surfers will be paired with 16 randomly chosen cancer clinics or foundations and will submit their top video clips to Surfline.com for a chance to win their foundation or clinic any of Ambry’s hereditary breast cancer test vouchers.

“By encouraging women to get appropriate screening, we can continue to detect or prevent breast cancer in its earliest stages.”

The competition’s winning clinic/foundation will receive a total of $50,000 in Ambry diagnostic vouchers, second place will receive $30,000 in the same vouchers and both third and fourth places will each receive $10,000 in vouchers. The remaining 12 clinics or foundations will each receive one comprehensive BRCA1/2 voucher for participating in the event.

“Genetic testing is the most effective form of early detection and can play a huge role in preventive care and treatment,” said Dr. Aaron Elliott, Ambry Genetics Chief Executive Officer. “By encouraging women to get appropriate screening, we can continue to detect or prevent breast cancer in its earliest stages.”

According to the National Cancer Institute, breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women in the United States.

Clinics will be randomly selected through a raffle, which will be featured on Mauli Ola Foundation’s Facebook page on September 30. The virtual contest will premier October 1 on Surfline.com and will last throughout the month of October in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Ambry offers many genetic testing options, including their recently developed panel CustomNext-Cancer, which allows a clinician to choose from up to 55 genes in order to create their own hereditary cancer panel, tailored to their patient’s specific medical needs. Ambry’s testing menu features several other testing options for hereditary Breast Cancer namely BRCA1 and BRCA2, vouchers for which will be donated to each participating clinic or foundation.

“I am very excited about our third Battle for the Breasts competition,” said James Dunlop, Ambry Genetics Chief Commercial Officer. “I’m proud that Mauli Ola Foundation will empower people to take charge of their health. We are humbled to have a loyal group of ambassadors that are willing to share their platform for the greater good.”
