AliveCor Unveils Medical Grade Mobile App To Manage Top Risk Factors For Stroke

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Oct. 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- AliveCor, the leader in FDA-cleared mobile electrocardiogram (ECG/EKG) technology for mobile devices, today announced it is integrating weight and activity reading across iOS and Android platforms, enabling consumers to now capture five of the most important factors for evaluating the risk of cardiovascular disease: heart rhythm, blood pressure, weight, physical activity and resting heart rate. The company also announced Monday a collaboration with Mayo Clinic (see release here) and recently reached a major heart health milestone, with over 10 million user ECGs recorded.

Stroke, a major form of cardiovascular disease, is the fifth leading cause of death in the U.S. and a leading cause of disability, but up to 80% can be prevented. By giving consumers a multi-dimensional view of their health, AliveCor is putting more control in patients' hands, improving patient-doctor relationships and applying machine learning to advance the treatment of heart disease. The new capabilities make Kardia Mobile the first consumer-facing app that allows patients and physicians to view five modifiable risk factors in one place. Enabling users to view these results allows them to capture an overall picture of their own health and share readings with loved ones, ultimately providing peace of mind for everyone.

"Today we're giving patients and caregivers the ultimate gift, an active role in their total heart health anytime anywhere, not just at office visits," said Vic Gundotra, AliveCor CEO. "With these new integrations, AliveCor is expanding beyond just atrial fibrillation detection and giving patients more control over their own care. This combination of vital stats gives patients an unprecedented view of their heart disease risk factors, making them more engaged in their heart health care."

Android and iOS users will now be able to track their body weight from the Kardia app, by manually entering weight into the app or by accessing Apple Health or Google Fit. Android users can now manage blood pressure results by manually entering data or accessing the readings from Google Fit.

Devoted to delivering trusted medical-grade products for both consumers and physicians, AliveCor continues to work closely with the FDA for clearance of the Kardia Band, which is expected to be released in the U.S. in early 2017.
