Alimera Sciences Announces $37.5 Million Private Placement

ATLANTA, Jan. 28, 2014/PRNewswire/ -- Alimera Sciences, Inc. (NASDAQ: ALIM) (Alimera), a biopharmaceutical company that specializes in the research, development and commercialization of prescription ophthalmic pharmaceuticals, today announced that it has obtained commitments from certain non-affiliated institutional investors to purchase approximately $37.5 million of its common stock in a private placement. Proceeds from the private placement are expected to be used for general corporate and working capital purposes.

"This financing will provide us with working capital to support our continued commercialization of ILUVIENĀ® in Europe and the ongoing pursuit of FDA approval in the United States," said Dan Myers, president and chief executive officer of Alimera.

Alimera has entered into a securities purchase agreement with the investors pursuant to which Alimera will sell an aggregate of 6,250,000 shares of its common stock at a purchase price of $6.00 per share. The private placement is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to close during the week of January 27, 2014.

Cowen and Company, LLC served as sole placement agent for the transaction.
