After Filling 70 U.S. Positions This Year, Miltenyi Biotec Plans to Add 30 More U.S. Jobs in 2017

Global biotechnology company Miltenyi Biotec, headquartered in Germany, plans to expand its U.S. operations and hire 30 new employees in 2017.
Miltenyi Biotec will be filling positions such as technical sales consultants throughout the U.S. The company will also be hiring for marketing product management openings based in San Diego, regulatory affairs positions based in Cambridge, Mass. as well as Good Manufacturing (GMP) roles in Gaithersburg, Maryland or Sunnyvale, Calif.
Miltenyi Biotec, known for pioneering MACS magnetic cell separation technology, a fast and gentle method for the isolation of viable and functionally active cells by magnetic labeling, is also renovating its Cambridge, Mass. office. The 100-year-old brick building in the heart of the Boston metropolitan area will be home of the clinical development and regulatory affairs team.
This expansion follows a big year of growth in 2016, when Miltenyi added roughly 70 U.S. positions, including members of a new Cambridge-based clinical development team, as well as employees for a GMP manufacturing facility in Sunnyvale, Calif. Multiple sales professionals were also hired by Miltenyi Biotec throughout the country.
“We have grown into a portfolio of outstanding products ranging from unique cell labeling reagents, through sophisticated cell separation and analysis devices, to innovative systems for clinical applications,” said Jenny Stanionis, vice president of human resources at Miltenyi Biotec. “Our portfolio of outstanding tools for the translation from basic research to therapy, addresses techniques of sample preparation, cell separation and analysis, molecular analysis, cell culture, therapeutic plasma apheresis.”
Today, Miltenyi Biotec—committed to the advancement of biomedical research and cellular therapy—has a multinational team of more than 1,200 biomedical scientists, physicians, engineers and support groups.
When looking for new talent, the biotech firm values “a strong self-initiative coupled with an inquisitive nature,” Stanionis explained. “It really is all about the science here at Miltenyi, and we look for individuals who are great science communicators and passionate about what we do.”
Stanionis said that the firm fosters a culture of continuous learning that goes beyond basic product information and dives into deeper scientific goals of their customers.
Furthermore, Miltenyi Biotec stands by its guiding principle: “researchers working for researchers.” The company believes that in order to effectively support their customers, employees must understand their technology as well as, or better, than their customers. “This is no small task when you realize that some of the brightest minds in science today are our customers,” Stanionis said.
As for the company’s future outlook, opportunity lies ahead.
