Advanced Clinical Research Services Moves Clinical Trials from Feasibility to Optimization and Viability through a Proven Framework
With the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) came the rise of Comparative Effectiveness Research (CER) to drive cost savings in health care as well as ensure less confusion about therapies. CER was funded to the tune of $1.1 billion in 2009. While the name of CER was updated in March 2010 to Patient-Centered Outcomes Research (PCOR), the focus is still on comparative effectiveness. Given PCOR as well as the tightening of investment dollars, VCs have increased their deal scrutiny.
In response, VCs have to look beyond feasibility assessments of the target company’s portfolios and creating associated financial models. Now, the highest return for VCs is captured based on three key elements: operational efficiency of the company, strong differentiation of pipeline products (comparative effectiveness), and the medical/scientific soundness of clinical development plans and protocols.
