"On behalf of Access MediQuip's Board of Directors, I am very pleased that Dr. Patel will be leading the company going forward," said Steve Cosler, chairman of the board of AMQ. "He will continue to build on the progress the company has made under Tim Hargarten's leadership, positioning the company for continued growth and leadership in this important and emerging specialty health sector of surgical implant management."

Since he joined AMQ in November 2010, Patel has been leading the company's cost of care initiatives, which include manufacturer contracting, network development and management, site of care optimization, and clinical utilization management. He was also leading all provider and facility initiatives as well as device sourcing and clinical programs focused on the delivery of cost savings for payers and employers and improved clinical outcomes for patients.

"AMQ is a company that is in the right place at the right time," Patel said. "I look forward to building upon the strong foundation that Tim Hargarten and everyone at AMQ has created over the years. We will focus on speed-to-market strategies for the surgical implant sector to reduce rapidly increasing costs while helping to improve quality care. That's the market opportunity of the future, and for AMQ it's a bright one."

Patel joined AMQ from Magellan Health Services, where he served on the executive leadership team as Chief Corporate Development Officer, responsible for mergers and acquisitions and other strategic business initiatives. He also led operations at Magellan's National Imaging Associates (NIA) where he built out network capabilities, addressed cost-of care issues and supported product development. Prior to Magellan, Patel held positions as chief executive officer of Imericius Healthcare, managing director of Internet Healthcare Group, and served as a vice president of Scheer and Company.
