Smithtown, NY (September 30, 2013) – A.M. Surgical, Inc. announced today the launch of the Stratos™ Endoscopic Carpal Tunnel Release System. The Stratos ™ will be featured at the 68th annual American Society for Surgery of the Hand Meeting, October 3-5, 2013 in San Francisco, California. The Stratos™ was designed in collaboration with Carbon Design Group (Seattle, WA).

The Stratos™ Endoscopic Carpal Tunnel Release System is used for the surgical treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome. Carpal tunnel syndrome is the most frequent nerve entrapment condition of the upper extremity affecting approximately 4-10 million people in the US alone. Symptoms include pain, numbness, and tingling of the hand, especially in the thumb, index, middle and a portion of the ring finger. Patients suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome often complain of waking up at night with painful, numb hands. For many, these symptoms can lead to the inability to work or pursue their favorite sports and pastimes.

The Stratos™ offers a minimally invasive surgical approach to relieve the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome and results in a smaller incision, less pain and a quicker return to work and normal activities when compared to traditional open carpal tunnel release surgery.

The new device leverages the A.M. Surgical Clear Cannula, which protects critical anatomy and allows a clear view of the surgical field. The Stratos™ locks onto any standard 4mm, 30° endoscope, allowing the surgeon to position the cannula within the carpal canal under direct endoscopic visualization. The endoscope can work independently of the Stratos™ with a simple twist of the device, which allows the cannula to remain static within the carpal canal. A unique “revolver tab” handle enables surgeons to easily select and deploy a scope-mounted blade or scraper. This innovative design reduces surgical instrumentation and offers surgeons a higher level of surgical control and visualization throughout the procedure.

“We are absolutely thrilled to announce the launch of the Stratos™ as we feel this device is the most comprehensive and safest endoscopic carpal tunnel release system available to surgeons,” said Romi Mirza, President of A.M. Surgical, Inc. “We’ve expanded on our core clear cannula technology and collaborated with the world-class product development team at Carbon Design Group to enhance the surgeon experience. The intuitive design of the Stratos™ offers surgeons an all-in-one, disposable device, which can be used from the incisional approach they are most comfortable with. A great product design coupled with unparalleled endoscopic visualization translates into improved OR efficiency and safety, and ultimately, better outcomes for patients suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome.”
