July 12, 2013 -- Researchers at LBNL and Nextval Inc have been awarded an R&D100 award. This award, considered the “Oscars of Innovation”, recognizes the top 100 technologies of 2013 and was awarded for a high-throughput mass spectrometry platform utilized at the Joint BioEnergy Institute (JBEI) to support the development of lignocellulosic biofuels. This innovative screening platform uses custom chemistries, high-density arrayed samples on mass spectrometry surfaces and laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry to create high throughput and high content assays with multiple samples/second throughputs. In addition to the LBNL biofuels applications, Nextval is commercializing this technology for high-need biological, bio-industrial, and medical assays, including drug development and medical diagnostics.
