BioSpace Unveils Fifth Edition Of Genetown™ Hotbed Campaign For The Massachusetts Life Science Community

NAPLES, FL, November 21, 2003 - BioSpace, the leading online destination for the bio-pharmaceutical industry, unveiled the fifth edition of the Genetown™ Hotbed Campaign with a reception last night at The Boston Harbor Hotel. Guest speakers for the evening celebration included Janice Bourque, President and CEO, Massachusetts Biotechnology Council; John Hennessy, Site Manager, AstraZeneca R&D Boston and Steven Herrmann, PhD, Director, Protein Technologies, Wyeth Research.

Recognizing Massachusetts as an international life science hub, Genetown highlights forty eight (48) Bay State organizations including biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, industry service and supply companies, research institutes, non-profit organizations and universities. Participating companies include Antigenics, Biogen Idec, Cubist Pharmaceuticals, Genzyme and Serono.

The Genetown campaign is designed to attract additional talent, capital and other resources to the area and includes a new iteration of the world renowned Genetown Hotbed Map, a promotional image of the state that displays the logos and buildings of participating organizations. The map is further enhanced through the integration of many functional components including a Genetown Hotbed Homepage (genetown.biospace.com) on BioSpace's industry leading Website, BioSpace.com. The site attracts 1 million unique monthly visitors and features life science news, jobs, clinical trials, stock updates, real estate, events and other industry information.

The first edition of the Genetown Hotbed Campaign was launched in 1995. The original 1985 Biotech Bay™ Map for San Francisco hangs on permanent display in the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History.
