Venetec International, Inc. Names Gene Starr As New President And CEO

10/19/2005 5:09:52 PM

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 2, 2004--Venetec International, Inc., maker of StatLock safety securement devices, proudly announces the appointment of Mr. Gene Starr as its new President and CEO. "Venetec's accelerated advance into the $2 billion catheter securement market poses exciting new challenges and opportunities," said Dr. Steve Bierman, the company's Founder. "We believe Gene Starr is the perfect executive to meet those challenges and capitalize on those opportunities." Mr. Starr was, most recently, President of ConMed Electrosurgery; previously, he was President of Tyco HealthCare Group, Canada; and before that, was a Group Vice President with US Surgical. Mr. Starr brings a wealth of sales, marketing and operational expertise to Venetec's management team.

Venetec International, Inc. anticipates continued growth as its StatLock catheter securement products gain increasing market acceptance. Driven by clinical data, proven cost-efficiencies, and the needlestick safety enforcements of OSHA, StatLock is rapidly becoming a worldwide standard of care. "Tape and suture as securement techniques are doomed to obsolescence," said Dr. Bierman. The company's founder will remain active in the company, continuing to refine and invent new StatLock products, managing its multicenter clinical trials, and spearheading the company's marketing campaigns with respect to patient and healthcare worker safety. "Growth such as Venetec is now undergoing requires experienced management. Our customers and partners can expect Venetec to continue to set a world-class standard of excellence with Gene at the helm."

Venetec International holds an intellectual property portfolio of more than 50 patents and has nearly as many patents-pending. The company has agreements for StatLock usage with many healthcare organizations, including Novation, Premier, Inc. and the Veterans Health Administration.

StatLock devices are included in the safety infusion systems of Baxter Healthcare, B. Braun, Arrow International, BD (Becton Dickinson), C.R. Bard, Cook, Inc., Kendall/Tyco, and others. StatLock is used in more than 1,000 healthcare facilities worldwide, including Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and the Cleveland Clinic. For more information, call (800) 833-3895 or access www.StatLock.com.
