MADISON, N.J., April 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Wyeth announced today that it is joining a nationwide collaboration of American pharmaceutical companies, health care providers, patient advocacy groups and civic organizations to create the "Partnership for Prescription Assistance" -- a program that will facilitate access to free or discounted medicines for qualifying patients in the United States who lack prescription coverage.
The objective of this new effort is to increase awareness of existing drug assistance programs and to boost enrollment among eligible patients. The program offers a single point of access through a toll free phone number and website -- (888) 477-2669 and http://www.pparx.org/ -- to more than 275 existing private and public patient assistance plans including the Wyeth Pharmaceutical Assistance Foundation.
"Millions of patients who need help have been assisted by these programs," says Bernard Poussot, President, Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. "Now, many more will have easier access to important, life-saving medicines."
In 2004, Wyeth provided assistance to more than 380,000 patients in the United States. Wyeth's Pharmaceutical Assistance Foundation works in partnership with thousands of physicians and other health care providers throughout the U.S. to supply patients with a variety of Wyeth products at no charge. The Foundation also provides a number of specialized Patient Assistance Programs for medical conditions requiring more comprehensive treatment and support services.
