ELMWOOD PARK, N.J., July 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- WebMD Corporation today announced a three-year extension to its agreement with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (BCBSMA) to continue to provide comprehensive electronic data interchange (EDI) services.
Over the course of the companies' five-year relationship, WebMD has helped BCBSMA attain the highest level of EDI penetration in the Massachusetts market for electronic claims submission and other transactions such as eligibility inquiries, referrals, claims status checks and electronic remittance advice (ERA).
"At BCBSMA, we understand the importance of electronic connectivity for our provider community," said Carl Ascenzo, Chief Information Officer, BCBSMA. "We are working closely with WebMD to increase not only the penetration of claims and eligibility transactions, but are also looking ahead to the use of technology for information exchange around clinical guidelines and to improve overall operating efficiencies among our members and providers. We look forward to partnering with WebMD as one of our strategic partners in meeting these overall needs."
"By providing all-payer transaction services through a single point of connectivity, WebMD helps payers and providers achieve greater administrative efficiencies and comply with the HIPAA standards," said Tony Holcombe, President, WebMD Envoy. "As the largest payer in New England, BCBSMA is an important customer of WebMD and our ongoing relationship demonstrates how WebMD's comprehensive, integrated services provide value across their business."
This renewed contract is just one example of how WebMD and BCBSMA are working together to reduce health care costs while promoting better care for BCBSMA members, and to improve access to more efficient services for its provider community. BCBSMA makes WebMD's Personal Health Manager available to its members, including access to the health risk assessment tool, physician continuing medical education and other interactive health management and wellness programs.
